Landscape with two cows. 1807.

George Walker

* 1793 in Edinburgh † 1814 in Edinburgh

Pen lithograph mounted on sheet with ochre aquatint border. Size of sheet: 32.9 x 42.4 cm.

Fine impression as published in the second issue of the series 'Specimens of Polyautography', published by Vollweiler in 1806-7.

Of note is the Lettering on the stone at top left: Walker 1807 / Amateur as the artist was only 14 years old at the time.

This print forms part of the antiquary Thomas Fisher's collection of early English lithographs, termed 'polyautography', which was bound in two volumes in 1818. Fisher's collection included the two issues of the series 'Specimens of Polyautography' (see above) as well as many other examples of the medium by amateurs and artists, in both pen and crayon. Fisher himself experimented with lithography, producing a series of prints of the frescos in the Chapel of Trinity at Stratford on Avon in 1807, though these are not included in his collection (BM).
