Leon Steinmetz

  The Beautifull Cassandra
The Beautifull Cassandra by Jane Austen, written when she was twelve years old, is part of the author's Juvenilia, which mainly consists of short satiric and farcical pieces. It tells the story of a young lady who sets out on an adventure around the city of London.
Leon Steinmetz's (b. 1944, Moscow) series of drawings act as a visual counterpart to Jane Austen's youthful writing. Used for the 2018 Princeton University Press publication, they were excecuted with a large Chinese calligraphy brush projecting a sense of movement and whimsical freedom.
