St Sebastian

Lorenzo Loli

* 1612 in Bologna † 1691 in Bologna

Etching in oval. Size of sheet: 16.3 x 13.5 cm.

Watermark: Circle with crosier.

Literature:     B.12;

                     Nagler 12.

Very good impression with slight plate tone on a large quadrangular sheet. Untouched and fresh with a slight offset of the same print verso. Most of his etchings are after Guido Reni or Elisabetta Sirani. This is one of the few prints of his own invention. A true example of a 17th-century peintre graveur and Nagler calls it “Praechtiges Blatt”. Not listed in the British Museum.
