Ernest Ange Duez was a French painter and illustrator. He produced many biblical scenes in a style that has been described as ‘well-behaved Impressionism’, and illustrated books such as Victor Hugo’s Les Travailleurs de la mer. He admired Manet and with other artists established a subscription to donate Olympia to the Louvre.
