Marie Laurencin
Printed Oeuvre 1906-1937
We are delighted to present one of the most comprehensive exhibitions on the printed oeuvre of Marie Laurencin (1883 - Paris - 1956).
The display spans almost the entirety of her printmaking career and includes woodcuts, etchings and lithographs. Notably, these are often hand coloured, and many are proof impressions and whole progressive printing sequences. Most of the prints derived from the publisher and are therefore in pristine condition and fresh colours.
Trained in porcelain painting and drawing, Laurencin embraced printmaking early on in her life, developing a distinctive and elegant style shaped by Fauvism and Cubism. She was the only woman in the Section d'Or, a celebrated figure of the Parisian avant-garde and a highly sought-after portraitist.
