Neil Gall
The Studio

Having received a large collection of old copies of The Studio dating from the 1940s and 50s, Neil Gall (b. 1967, Aberdeen) has reimagined the front covers with collage and montage techniques. Gall uses various ways to respond neatly to the subjects on the cover illustrating the theme of each issue. These are as broad as 'Contemporary Canadian Watercolours', 'Japanese Contemporary Art', 'Distinguished Amateurs in Graphic Arts', 'The Function of The Royal Academy'. In his works, Neil asks us to reconsider how we reflect on the art of these topics; often we see the cutting out of circular windows, spying holes, and circles, layered on top as he explores a variety of techniques.

The works are also on view at our temporary exhibition space in Chelsea, London for the month of July.
