This plate is from the large portfolio 'Opus Elegantissimum' published by Nicolaes Visscher in 1694 with prints by and atter De Lairesse.

Lairesse was one of the most celebrated painters of the Dutch Golden Age. He was trained in the Franco-Italian influence of Bertholet Flémal (1614-Liege-1675), and with his classical and allegorical works, Lairesse was known as the "Dutch Poussin." A famous portrait of him by Rembrandt hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. (3181).
